THE PROGRAM

A major financial cost to the individual and the family today is Health Insurance. This, when correctly identified is not health insurance at all. It is sick-care insurance.

No amount of money paid to a corporate insurance structure will keep you well. What you do guarantee is a reduced fee or in some cases free consultation with a doctor.

With an increasingly older population Medibank is becoming increasingly unsustainable.

But then it always has been. The Federal Government has for many years had to prop up the private health insurance sector. Fees continue to escalate just as chronic illness conditions have continued to escalate out of control for more than 50 years. In 1947 approximately 42% of the population suffered one or more chronic illness conditions. today that percentage approximates 80% and it will continue to increase so that by the year 2020 almost every Australian will suffer a chronic illness condition.

Health insurance is a personal responsibility and includes in particular, paying your subscription on time. What it does not include is attention to life-style and diet/nutrition, except for lip-service by some insurers.

It was long ago established by one of the greatest scientists who ever lived that we are all biochemically individual in our nutrient needs.

Roger J. Williams Pioneer in Biochemistry, Nutrition, Biochemical Individuality, and Public Education. Professor at The University of Texas at Austin, 1939 to 1986. He founded and directed the Clayton Foundation Biochemical Institute, 1941 to 1963. Roger J Williams discovered the B-vitamin, Pantothenic Acid, and was a co-discoverer of and named Folic Acid. Author of twenty one books and nearly 300 articles.  Elected to the National Academy of Sciences, 1946  President of the American Chemical Society, 1957. This great nutritional scientist said way back then that Folic Acid supplementation would prevent neural-tube defects in the new-born. As is their way the established medical system scoffed and ridiculed his findings. Only a few years ago [they] rediscovered the truth and now Folic Acid is routinely prescribed for pregnancy.

The same story applies to the brothers Shute two Canadian cardiologists who along with Dr. Vogelsang proved the therapeutic and preventive role of Vitamin E supplementation in heart disease in 1946. Until recently however the establishment once again chose to ridicule the use of vitamin E for anything other than improving fertility in rats. Today This life-saving vitamin is routinely prescribed by thinking doctors for heart disease.

When you have a scientist of this stature telling us that we need to supplement above and beyond the so-called mythical “balanced diet” and the RDA/Is, as also has the likes of Linus Pauling, Nobel Laureate in chemistry and peace, and Vitamin C Guru it would be wise to listen and then make an informed decision.

 The problem is that we are all under the control of vested interests such as the giant American Agricultural and Food manufacturing industries, plus the all-powerful  pharmaceutical companies, abetted by government  and medical fraternity. Who other than doctors is guaranteed an income for life by government?
 

You may recall some decades back,  the Cholesterol-maniacs telling us to stop eating eggs, butter, red meat, prawns, crabs, lobster and oysters. In the nutrition circles in which the writer moves we knew then, of 32 years of laboratory studies in animals that over-consumption of partially hydrogenated oils such as margarine markedly increases the incidence of cancer.

Now of course Canola and Olive Oil are in without apology from the Heart Foundations who now endorse a nine page booklet on how nutritious eggs are for you. Of course it remains to be seen what the consequences are of high consumption of Canola oil. By the way do not eat  eggs that are not free range or omega-3 enriched. The result will be a build up of arachadonic acid and consequent inflammation and pain.

We  are not all alike. Our needs may differ greatly, especially with regards to lifestyle. For example, if you smoke and drink alcohol frequently your nutritional needs will be higher. If you are pregnant, or even just menstruating your needs will increase for one if not all nutrients. Stress is of major concern and that includes exercise stress which increases the need for specific nutrients including calcium, magnesium, zinc and vitamin C to name just a few. For decades Russian workers exposed  to heat such as foundries or bakeries were given extra vitamin A by the State. Can you imagine our Government giving us free vitamins? The AMA would throw a fit. It never ceases to amaze me how the authorities accept the word of the AMA on matters pertaining to nutrition when a Federal Health survey, I think in 1972, proved that the doctor’s receptionist generally had a better knowledge of nutrition than the doctor, especially if the receptionist were currently dieting.

The need for supplementation if you wish to improve cellular nutrition, prevent disease and slow the aging process is well proven. Is it therefore not rational that Health Care is about PREVENTION?
